Life in 2013

I decided to take a break from using an actual Smashbook to document this year's "events", and replace it with the Michaels brand books called Creative Chaos.  The binder pages are super cute and I love that I can open the rings to reorganize the pages, add pages of my own stash or remove some.

So far I've documented the 1st 3 months of 2013 and I already love it.  I get to scrap the pages faster than ever, which I love because that means I can spend more time in the pool or coloring.

As always, a link to this blog/binder will be available in the sidebar for future reference.  I will continually update this blog with more photos as the months go by.  So remember to come back and see what I've done in the book.

... in no particular order ...

The Best Memories.

Even though I'm a SMASH*aholic at heart, I continually purchase 12x12 collections and sheets of paper because they are just so beautiful, and with the best intentions of using them.  Sometimes it's to cut them down and make mini books, but 99% of the time I do it thinking it WILL give me the push to get away from my comfort zone.

I do layout-style smashing (as you've seen), but for some reason the pressure isn't as great when it's in a binder.  I literally second guess myself, look around for inspiration, think it through over and over and don't relax and just scrap, like I do with my smashbooks.

Yesterday after I smashed a couple of quick layout-style pages in my Creative Chaos binder (which you'll see soon), I felt the urge to break open a new collection I've been hoarding and do something different.

[WONDER WOMAN!!!  *spin* *spin*]

Most of the items on this layout is by My Mind's Eye Collectable "Unforgettable", but the rest were things I had close to my desk that I thought would go great on the layout.

It's very simple, very balanced (which I love), and the colors blend well together.  Accomplishing those three things on a 12x12 gives me heartburn.  lol.

I can't deal!

So soak it up people, because God only knows when I'll share another 12x12.  lol.

On Cloud 9.

I had been wanting to get this "Butterfly Baby" image by Saturated Canary, ever since Krista announced the coming of it and that some of the money would be going to a charity.

It's the most perfect baby image I've seen, but I didn't have anything in mind to use it for... until last month when we got the great news that my sister in law was adopting.

Alina is now more than a month old and the baby shower was this past weekend.

The video below shares the products I used and the thought process of the card.
I hope you enjoy it.

So I'm not sure if you guys have heard, but Some Odd Girl has a growing community of crafters that share their SOG creations.  I've only been on there 1 day and I already love it.

They are currently having a 3 month long challenge called ODD IDOL and instead of explaining what it's about I'll let you go check for yourself.

In any case, this card is my submission to the first challenge of ODD IDOL.  I colored in Hey Kaylee with my copic markers and the 6x6 "Happy Days" paper pad by Echo Park to build this card sketch.

One of a Kind.

It's Friday!

And that means I can share another Scrap Happy Ohio DT card.

As you know I've been playing around with new backgrounds and couldn't help but use it on this gorgeous Ballerina image by SHO.  I do struggle with coloring clothing (something I will have to continually work on), but I absolutely LOVE how all the colors blend well together.

Make sure you check the end of this blog for the list of supplies.

I hope you stop by their shop and find something you absolutely must have.

Have a blessed weekend.

Baby Shower Keepsake

I was given the crafty task of making New Mom Advice Cards for my sister-n-law's baby shower this coming Saturday.  To be honest, I didn't know where to start.  I figured if I found the Sizzix die I would be able to make it easy on myself.  Yes, that discontinued die of the baby dress.  Couldn't find it anywhere.  Not even eBay.  Not even The Scrap Yard.

So I went to my good friend (GOOGLE), and searched for a template.  There were a couple that were cute, but this particular one stood out.  It was roomy and it also looked more girly than the others.

I asked hubby to work his magic and he was able to replicate it.  I say replicate because the image I saved for him to work on was grainy, blurred and rough around the edges.  So we took that idea and made it our own.

My SIL's sister-n-law wanted each advice card to be decorated with lace and trim and flowers, but as I thought about it more I knew it would be difficult to keep all those cards without any of them ripping or coming undone.  So I decided I would create a Mini Keepsake Album, where she can keep all the cards in one spot and also have a beautiful front to showcase.  Each family or person who writes an advice card will have their photo taken with my BIL, SIL and baby Alina.  That photo will go to the left of their advice card (being glued to the back of the previous advice card).

I know it sounds confusing, which is why I recorded a video discussing more about the process, the ideas behind it, products used and other details.

Let Them Eat...

When I first started crafting, it was SMASHBOOK style.  Where you just collected tickets and receipts, printed a photo and smashed it all in a plain journal book with journaling and stickers.

I went on a rampage buying so many stickers in 2006 and 2007.  I have drawers for DAYS fully equiped with all kinds of stickers.  I had no clue what I'd used them for in 2009 and 2010 when my craft-style changed (thanks to YOUTUBE), but once K&Co came out with their Smashbook line, (which I'm forever grateful for), I knew exactly how to put it to good use.

Some stickers, though, are too pretty to SMASH and deserve to be on a card.  So that's exactly how I used it in the card below.

This is my last entry for the Karber's Challenge 51, and I am so excited to finally share it with you.  I colored Cupcake Leslie last week and was happy to change up the hair color from my usual black.

I added glossy accents to her glasses and stickles to her cupcake.  This card can be given as a birthday gift, or an anything card.  It's cute and playful.
